JAN HELLWEGE
Jan earned an Art Degree at the University of Central Oklahoma while working as a Cosmetologist.
Her career was in Graphic Advertising Design but her heart has always been with the fine arts.
After retiring as a Graphic Artist, Jan began painting and studying with various local painters and eventually displaying her art in a gallery in the Paseo, OKC, from 2014 - 2024.
She is a Certified Color Analyst, as well.
In her studio, Jan paints with an Impressionist approach. She sometimes paints Plein Air paintings when traveling, and always has her camera ready for reference photos. She uses a combination of watercolor and ink and markers, as well. Brushes, knives, cloth and sometimes sponges are her tools.

"My painting professor once said,
"Paint what you know" and I would add...
"Paint what you love."
Growing up in the country, I learned to observe and love Nature.
My oil paintings are mostly landscapes, seascapes, and commissioned pet portraits.
I'm always inspired by Nature. My paintings are a sort of diary of my travels and beautiful landscapes I've seen. Some have a story.
Dogs have always been my favorite pets so naturally, they inspire me to paint commissioned dog portraits but I also paint cats and horses.
Oils are my main medium but I also use watercolor, when the subject calls for it".
